Best Cities for Traveling with Kids

Most major cities have kid-friendly activities such as children’s museums and amusement parks.  But some stand out when it comes to fun and family oriented activities.

Albuquerque
has the world’s biggest hot air balloon festival each October.  But that’s not all.  The ¡Explora! Science Center and Children's Museum is one of the country’s best in terms of interactive, kid-friendly exhibits. The Albuquerque Biological Park includes a zoo with elephants and lions and an aquarium with kids’ favorites like seals and sharks.

San Diego boasts two of the most famous family-friendly attractions in the US: The San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld.  These are quite pricy for those on a budget, but the family-friendly beaches and many the sights at Balboa Park are perfect for families traveling on the cheap.

Houston
has a plethora of down-home, family-friendly barbecue joints where eating is a low-key affair.  In addition, sites like the Downtown Aquarium, Space Center, and Children’s Museum of Houston are worthwhile attractions for young travelers.  Water parks, like Splashtown, are also within striking distance of central Houston.

Minneapolis
has plenty of family friendly activities in summer and winter.  Sure skiing is a major sport there, but the Winter Carnival (in February) features ice sculptures, toboggan rides and parades.  In the summer, the Science Museum and Children’s Museum draw visitors, as do the beaches at many of the city’s lakes.

Denver boasts parks and attractions aimed at young children and their families.  City Park is one of the largest urban parks in the US.  It has fields, lakes and playgrounds and is the perfect attraction for families traveling on a budget.  Also, there is the Children's Museum of Denver and the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys.

These cities offer a welcoming family environment and plenty of attractions to keep both young and old busy.
